INSPIRED BY IMPRISONMENT

POSTED IN PRISON LIFE

17/04/2014

This song is truly made under the inception of being in prison, inspired by freedom.
While the preparations for the movie Jailhouse Rock where in progress two famous rock and roll songwriters, Jerry Leiber and Mark Stroller were asked two write a couple of songs for the movie. For months they didn't write anything and the MGM studios did not receive any material.
After four months the songwriting duo were invited to come to New York to give an update on the songs. Leiber and Stroller traveled to New York, but instead of working they toured the city.

While they

were resting in their hotel music publisher Jean Alberbach confronted them in their room and locked them up. If they wanted their freedom back they had to write. And so they did and delivered four songs for the album, including this big hit Jailhouse Rock.

Other hit songs from this songwriting duo include: Hound Dog and Stand by Me.
