CARE OF CELL 44

POSTED IN PRISON LIFE

10/04/2014

Number 8 is one of the few upbeat songs with a prison subject.
Care of Cell 44 by The Zombies is written from the perspective of someone who is awaiting the release of a lover from prison.
It was recorded at the Abbey Road studios just after The Beatles finished their recordings of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

When the stereo mixing of the album was

finished The Zombies were already split up caused by tensions in the group after two singles released, one of which, Care of Cell 44.
The song wasn’t a success in its first year but after some years and a new album the song became very popular.
